looping software(OS) question

in my persuit of a way to best run looping(and other)audio software on my 
laptop(as an instrument, a P133, 32MB)i came across BeOS
from what i read on the web page its the way to go for audio
is anybody using BeOS?
can windows programs run on it(audio mulch particularly)?
any other OSs good for realtime audio stuff?
