Generally when someone hires me to do sound and percussion instruments 
(e.g. congas, jembe) are involved 
I grab the nearest small diaphragm condensor. (On the jembe I add a PZM 
underneath.)
 
Another possibility is K&K Sound. They are a small Oregon company that I 
have had good results with.
I have only used their pickups and transducers so I cant recommend their 
mics from experience but I 
have been pleased with what I have used so far.
