Subject: Re: live looping amplification etc.

I used to use various guitar preamps into a multieffector, into a
Passac 8x2 into a Mesa 50/50 into 200W EV loaded Mesa 1x12 cabs. The
speakers and the power amp always seemed able to handle whatever
multilooper and pitchshifted weirdness I'd put into them. I found more
traditional guitar amp type speakers (Celestion or lower wattage
Jensen) didn't sound as great with loopage and live guitar coming out
the same speaker.

I swapped out the 50/50 for a 20/20 at one gig, and my bandmates
immediately asked that I swap it back for the next show. It's designed
to break up much earlier than the 50/50, so things can get mushy if
you're trying to send it loops or even delay/reverb type effects. I
also tried a solid state power amp, it didn't sound anywhere nearly as
groovy as the 50/50 either.
