Very late notice but I"ve had a gnarly virus this past week, so please
forgive

*********************************************************

The 2nd Sundays Live Looping Series continues this
Sunday, August 14th at 8 p.m. with performances by
uber creative trumpet/electronics artist Craig McCoullough
and a special one time performance by Wierd Kalimba (Rick
Walker's one off project utilizing acoustic traditional african instruments
and electronics).

As a little tacked on gift, we will also be having a premier of a piece by
composer Wayne Jackson and a short dance performance with it.

                          "The Simplicity of Opposition"
Music: Karen Ganin-Pinto and Wayne Jackson
Choreography: Karen Ganin-Pinto Lighting: Serit Eisenman

The show is a gift to all ages in Santa Cruz from the artists, the producers
and the ATTIC.

Wierd Kalimba is local percussionist/live looper/abstract electronic artist
Rick Walker's project that represents two of his great musical loves in
a head on collision: Traditional West, South and North African music
and avante garde electronic processing/looping.

Utilizing only acoustic traditional african instruments as sonic sources,
he
will
be looping and using looping and glitching techniques to 'distress' the
results.

The inspiration for this one off project came from a tribe Rick started at
Tribe.net that
gathers Kalimba/Mbira/Sanza/Marimbula/Thumb Piano players from around the
world who are interested in unconventional uses of the traditional
instrument.

Craig McCoullough is somewhat of a rennaisance man in Santa Cruz.
Known as a very sophisticated clothing designer of both goth and rave
clothing he also is an accomplished classical trumpeter/flugelhornist
who also is fascinated by the interface between acoustic classical
instruments and electronics. Fascinated by lighting design,
Craig's first design for the Y2K4 live looping festival featured
a random laser patter reflected off of a speaker covered by a balloon
with a mirror glued to the middle. The laser was then reflected onto
an electronic sensor that Craig designed which triggered MIDI note events,
creating
a random ostinato pattern of electronic sounds. The results where
fascinating.
