According to the manual, that's mode 7. It's supposed
to work just like you described, and also has overdub
capability within the 4 second max. loop.

Unfortunately, my mode 7 has never worked as
described. (I bought it used with no literature.
Everything else on the unit works perfectly.)

I've occasionally looped with the delay modes, as a
full clockwise turn engages repeat-hold.
