I use a Mackie board on top of my rack.  I run to my Boss VF1 to the LXP5, 
to the laptop, to my looper, and then to the board.

I did look up the Sony GR-MP5 last night...wow, that unit is hard to find! 
Once read that John McLaughlin used one of those, and the MP7 for reverb.
