My 501 can do "endless" overdubbing.  You just set the "single delay"
switch to "repeat" and control the number of repetitions with the 
"intensity"
control.  There's some info on the differences between the models at:

It claims that the SOS head is placed differently on the 301 and that
the 301 can't do multiple repeats.
