You're asking how I'm running my chain for "my set up", but fact is
that the "Patterns" piece was not produced with the live concert set
up I'm using today (I use a couple, actually), so I need to deal with
the questions on at a time. This "Patterns" was a live looping EDP
improvisation that were recorded in a studio. That environment gives
you more control than performing live on stage. The studio routing
was as this:

- Sax mic were split into two parallel lines.
- One sax signal going into one track on a multitrack recorder (Logic
Pro on a computer with many audio inputs).
- Another sax signal going into the EDP.
- The EDP loop output going into another track on the multitrack
recorder.
- The tempo set in Logic and the EDP syncing by MIDI clock.
- A Behringer FCB1010 MIDI pedal board was used for controlling the EDP.
- A software wha pedal simulation was opened on the Logic track where
the direct sax was recorded (so the wha would not affect the audio
looped on the EDP). I used the FCB1010's expression pedal to work
that wha filter (yes, you are correct that I set it more as a filter
than as the usual Cry Baby or Vox wha simulation patches.

Ok, those were the routings. So when playing I recorded two mono
tracks: direct sax signal and EDP loops. Two other tracks were
already recorded: Speach and percussion. I was listening to these as
guidance for my improvisation. Functions used in the EDP were
Overdub, SUSSubstitute (I guess that is the character you have heard
in André LaFosse music), Speed and direct addressing of the three loops.

Finally, the recorded track of the EDP loops were split up in Logic
to enter many different dynamic filterbanks. As I remember a bunch of
Ohmforce Quadfrohmage. The pad like sound (where the sax is going for
a long note and the percussion stops) was created in the mix by
sending the sax signal (not the EDP looping) through some Cycling74
Pluggo effects (Rye and SpeedShifter, I think).

So the effect processing were not done all the way at the moment of
playing the looper and instrument.

If that addresses a live concert set up (guessing so because you
mentioned your two wha pedal live setup) I'm doing it much more
simple these days. Instrument going into an effect processor going
into a laptop going into an analog stereo compressor going into the
PA system. The laptop is loaded with Mobius (which in essence is a
bunch of virtual stereo EDPs with a lot added functionality) and a
little bit of reverb added to the looper output. Mobius is picking up
the tempo I play in (by the length of the first loop I make) and also
sending out MIDI Clock to my effect processor (so I can sync or
desync delays and rhythmical filtering etc). I like this set up
because it works well with flute, sax, guitar and EWI played with the
built-in sounds.

The http://www.looproom.com/audio/abc.mp3 though was not done on that
set up but on the laptop only, running Guitar Rig 2 into Mobius. I
don't like the sound of Guitar Rig 2 so I don't think I will use it
more.

A third se up is playing MIDI with an EWI into Logic on one laptop
and looping it in Mobius on a second laptop. I think I will use that
a lot in the future.

Then there are all kind occasional systems mocked up by EDP and MIDI
synchronizable analog filterbank, but I only use them in the studio
(when I need some special sound) because they are too heavy to
transport to gigs.
