Re: Setting Up my new Gibson Echoplex Pro

TH or anyone with a Allen&Heath,

I got a Allen&Heath Mix Wizard 16 track mixer today. I apologize for being completely ignorant on the very basics here, but I've always been just an acoustic player, with no experience with mixing boards etc.
Per your recommendations below, where exactly would I plugin to both the input and the output on the Echoplex? After that is solved, I would assume that on the back of the mixer, I will connect each channel's direct out to one of the 6 Aux send inputs?

Thanks in Advance
Todd

There's a variety of ways to handle it, but probably the simplest would be to have a channel for each "source" (guitar, bass, vocals) and the EDP in "post-fader" aux send, so that if the volume on the channel is muted, nothing gets sent to the aux.  The EDP would then come back through the aux return.

Having multiple EDP's sync'ed together allows you to maintain total track independence for your loops, so you can lay down a bass grove, add guitar and vocals, then selectively changed each of those three layers independently.  This requires a lot of practice though, to make seamless song-structures in the heat of performance, although it can be done.  With just one EDP, you have to plan in a different way if you want to have some elements drop in and out of the arrangement, which requires a different set of skills.  However, it does cost less money.

Thanks Travis,

Thats Great news. I wasn't sure how I was going to tell the wife that I needed two more Echoplex's. I will be getting a mixer ASAP. I am not too familiar with Mixer's either, so I am assuming that the Echoplex will be sent to the Mixer Aux and then routed to each channel?
Told you I was a caveman.
