I used to be a tube amp fanatic, and all I use now is the PA and the boogex VST amp sim. I really like it for the clean and slightly dirty (Scofield-like gain) tones, but not for heavy distortion, whic I rarely use.  The only distortion I have ever liked in the past when I played hard rock and progresssive metal or fusion was a a rackmount tube preamp, with a maximizer of some sort like the Rocktron Pro Q, running into a tube preamp (I used to use Peavey Classic 50/50s and loved them), and into a 4X12 cab. I used to use Sheffelds.

ps-krispen the phone beeps are quite interesting and funny!!!!!
