Hendrix: I agree, most Hendrix sounds pretty dated, but I reckon the best 
*sounding* Hendrix record is 'War Heroes' (released posthumously), which 
seems to have the bass mixed a little louder generally, and there's 
generally less clutter.  I particularly like 'Midnight', just one 
wonderful guitar, bass and drums.  

MP3s: In general, I can tolerate the sound of MP3s EXCEPT for that awful 
splashiness you get on cymbals and hi-hats, which often seems to persist 
with high sample rate MP3s.

recordings sound dated as well. I understand the basics of high end
