Re: thinking about moving from rack to laptop...advice please!

Hi Sim,
The only reason I partly switched from hard to soft is that I needed a
compact (travel friendly) and flexible setup for live gigs.

So far, my Mac and Motu have replaced a big rack with a TC D2, a DD-20, a
mixer/DI and a compressor. It has not replaced my LP1 for a several
reasons: I'm used to it, it has some features I really like and getting
used to Mobius or Superlooper would take me too much time at the moment.
But I do use a Augustus loop, that's one of my favourite plugins. It
sounds really well, organic and although I haven't tested that, you can
run multiple instances of Augustus to create a multi-track looper. But I
think the best option is not set it up in Mainstage but in Bidule.

My mainstage review
+ high quality plugins: both synths and effects
+ flexible and complex live setups are possible
+ works with channel strips and busses like a live mixer: flexible and easy
- responds to any incoming midi message on any channel, can't send midi
messages, limited filtering, no channel re-routing
- midi hangs every now and then , I can't use it live a midi panic switch.
I don't the cause yet, could be a plugin and not caused by Mainstage
- you can't use a AU-plugin like Augustus or Mobius to generate midi clock
and MS crashes when it detects multiple midi clocks
