for what it's worth... I'm going to be the dissenting opinion here.  I think nearly everybody who's on the list now and is reasonably active wouldn't have a problem with the subscription.  However, I think you will effectively cut off any new members.  It would have kept me from joining.  Which would have been a mistake, but as far as noobies are concerned, it's an unknown entity that wants money to join.

Hell,  if each of us who are regulars donated annually like Kim had requested  that might be enough. I would still make the archives available to the general public though.
