Re: mainstage CPU,how good is it for live looping?

Hi bro Luis! :)
I think Mainstage is OK regarding CPU usage compared to other hosts.
But like Per said, you have to watch the plugins you are using, some
can be very CPU hungry, for examples the Logic plugin "Space Designer"
which is a convolution reverb. Regarding latency, for me 128 and even
256 is OK, I'm used to a slight delay when looping acoustic
instruments like piano or guitar.

Btw: I'm no longer using Mainstage with Mobius, both are not running
stable on my Macbook. I have been using from Jan 2009 till Feb 2010
but I have noticed serious memory leakes, random CPU spikes and audio
drop outs causing 100% silcence while performing live...not funny. The
memory leak was probably caused by Mobius. Upgrading to the latest
versions of Mainstage and Mobius, OSX 10.6 and Motu firewire drivers
did not solve the issue. I do know that the CPU spikes issue is a
known issue in Logic 9, this info can be found on multiple internet
forums. It's a pity because the Mainstage plugins and instruments are
really good.

Anyway, I recently switched to Ableton Live with multiple instances of
Augustus Loop as my live setup and, as an alternative, I have created
a similar setup in Bidule . Live has been very stable so far, it has
very good built in plugins and the integration with midi controllers
is really good. What I also like are the automation options in Live as
an alternative for scripting. I have to dig into this but my idea is
to investigate if you can create clips which function as scripts like
in Mobius, either triggered by playing these clips or trigger them by
midi. Don't know if the last is possible though.
