Andy,

First, is it a Mac Powerbook or a MacBook (different models, different
processors). Hopefully, it's an Intel-based MacBook because that will
support the newer software...
Next, find out how much RAM is installed and, if possible, max it out.
Then find out how big the hard drive, how fast it is, and if you can
put a faster hard drive in.

After that, let your self run wild....
