To clarify,

As far as I know, the LP2 has a "replace" functionality, like a Punch
in on a tape machine. While recording, the inserted audio completely
replaces the audio beneath it. I imagine a number of other loopers
have it too.
I think the EDP has a unique "Insert" function where the existing
audio gets pushed back to make room for what's being inserted - so the
loop gets longer each time you insert. (Like Philip Glass's "2
Pages".)
