Ah my esteemed writing colleague, to make such crass and one-sided proclamations is to revel in imbalance. There are of course two major schools of though about, well, you know, everything:

School 1 -- Everything is pretty much like everything else
School 2 -- Nothing is exactly like anything else

Hi to all.

Can I chime in with absolutely essential rants ?
I love these statements, because you can also exactly say the total contrary…

Like 'music, or any sound, is in fact defined by the fact it never exactly repeats itself, even on a micro level'.
Seee ?

I so love this ! ! ! ! !

Kris,
I took away from the article that even if one defines music in the loosest of terms, any sound, musical or not, is already some sort of repetition if only on the micro level.

Which then leads us to the question, what is sufficient or necessary to define music? ;-)
