I have used both passive and active volume pedals and have not really 
experienced
any problems with either. I use both the Ernie Ball passive pedal and a 
Morley
active pedal.
I find the Morley is more useful to me because it has a wah wah and 
distortion
added to it. The PDW a fine unit!
