De-tune is just modulation that varies with the sweep of the treadle, kind 
of 
like a chorus effect, the sound gets "looser" as you sweep the pedal from 
back to front. 2nd to 3rd, I've found to be the best preset for 
"lapsteel". 
Watch that pesky level pot, it can take a little adjustment to keep line 
hiss 
out of your amp.
