Dear Stephen, The ebow works quit nicely on acoustic guitars. It will give a the nice warm sustain. There is a "hot spot" but not in the sense of on an electric. The "hot spot" that Ihave found on acoustics is where you can get the maximum effect of the unit. For less than $100 US it is a definate fun gadget. I've always loved the sound of a tambours, not sure it needs an ebow but experiment away. I once had five of these babies on the inside of a grand piano. Lots of fun.
