Actually, the suggestion to opt for 'overflow' recording (having the Repeater begin recording seamlessly on a different track in the same loop) sounds at least like it might be more feasible technically, yes? Whether or not a true looping overdub feature was implemented at some point, this would still be an interesting option. FWIW.
