another, often overlooked source of cv is a headphone out (reciever, 
mixing board, microcassette, etc)...line level is generally too low to run 
a cv, but the headphone amp can almost always do the job (i like the 
headphone out of the tv myself, as you can see/hear the relationship 
between the lips moving and the mod.
