i'm pretty sure my unit was made within the last couple of years.  i've had
it for about 2 months...bought new from alto music in ny.

i do wonder if the switchblade would rectify the problem, since it has
adjustable gain.  i'm just trying to keep the preamp, eventide, and power
amp even.
