I'd also be interested in knowing more bout this.

I use the ZVex looper a lot for guitar and baritone loops, its not the 
most 
flexible device in the world, but it SOUNDS really distinctive.

I think these chips are also  used in those cheep digital voice recorders 
you can get in radioshack.
