Carsten,

A piezo film sensor is made using a type of polymer called
Polyvinylidene fluoride, which can be made into thin sheets or cables. 
The sensitivity is 10 times that of piezoceramics, and they have a crazy
frequency response (.001-10^9 Hz).

For waterphones, piezo film sensors can be easily made waterproof and
have an acoustical impedance closer to water than ceramic materials have
(2.6 times versus 11 times).
