Is really how THAT goes

the 'but you probably won't" seems almost like sarcastic or sardonic (?)
commentary on someone not following a proper path to self-release

I have no familiarity with the band other than hearing their name back in
the day.  However, a friend of mine managed a rock club in the early 80's,
at which this band bombed.  From then on, he always referred to them as 
"Men
Without Hits."  :-)
