i may be misunderstanding you, but i think loop iv does this already, 
though only to 8th notes
just press undo while in reset and you can set a tempo with the feedback 
knob.
without something synched to keep time, it is hard to stay with it, 
though...

read the tempo select section in the loop iv upgrade manual for more info.
