Yup, exactly.
Usually, the Sharp minidiscs don't do this (there's a small gap between 
tracks that don't directly follow each other), but are *far* better for 
recording (you can change the input volume while recording, etc.
The Sony are not as good for recording but are better for looping.
So, the best solution is to buy a sharp recorder and a sony player ;)
