EFC-7 Question

Last night I noticed that when I press on the reverse (insert) on the
EFC-7 and have overdub engaged you hear a pause or click that actually
gets looped into the signal. This doesn't occur when overdub is off. Is
this a normal occurrence or could it be the quality of cord I am using
to connect the EFC-7 to the Echoplex which is just a basic Guitar cable.
