Bias makes a really cool standalone app (or you can use it like a VST
instrument) called
V-BOX

It is just like a dream stomp box that allow you to use VST plugins in
series or parallel when I don't feel like
opening up Fruity Loops or Cubase.

I frequently use it when I am just working on sound design.    It is also
(how refined of them) available on
both Mac and Win.

I highly recommend it.
