Kid Beyond here. Thanks to Per for posting that link, and thanks to all for your kind words about the video. I'll have more stuff -- audio and video -- up on my site soon. Although I've been too busy of late to be anything more than a lurker on LD, I recommend it to everyone who approaches me after my shows with an interest in live-looping. The advice and support of LD regulars (e.g., Per, Rick Walker, Jon Wagner, Zoe Keating) have been immensely helpful to me. In answer to some of the questions: Regarding first-loop capability: Yup, that's a click track (actually, it's my voice going "tss... tss... tss... tss..."). Ableton currently has no first-loop capability (and I'm on a PC, so I can't use Augustus Loop for that), but they already know the looper community wants it, and I'm going to do everything I can (begging, wheedling, cajoling) to see if they can put it in Live 6. I'm not currently using an ear monitor (I try to keep my setup very light and quick, and that would be one more piece of gear to worry about) but after a few sketchy experiences in large venues -- i.e., hearing much more of the boomy hall than of the monitor right in front of me -- I'm going to look in that direction. I will of course search the LD archives for good advice! :) Regarding a Bome MIDI Translator equivalent for Mac: On the video I said ControlAid, but I shouldn't have said anything, because I don't have a Mac and haven't tried it. (I desperately want to switch to Mac, but as of now, Ableton works much more CPU-efficiently on the fastest PC laptops than on the fastest PowerBook -- more tracks, more VST plugins, etc. See the Live 4 Performance Test thread on the Ableton forums for more info.) >From reading the descriptions of ControlAid on its site, I don't think it could handle the MIDI-events-into-multiple- keystrokes thing. A much brighter prospect is MidiPipe (Google it for more info). Either by itself or integrated with AppleScript, it may be able to accomplish that task. But once again, I haven't tried it. I'm not that deep of a programmer, but it seems like a basic MIDI-events-into-keystrokes translator would be pretty simple to build, no? Anyone want to take that on? :) Kid Beyond email@kidbeyond.com (415) 929-8822 http://biggerbread.com | http://kidbeyond.com
