Point taken. The original post made no mention of expense. Still, an
original 32 second jamman, for example would be under $400. the right 
choice
depends on the budget and the requirements.

You run into another problem though where the smallest full-featured
MIDI controller is the not-so-small Behringer, and none of the less
expensive loopers speak MIDI...
