RE: locking sustain pedal

What I want is a "momentary foot switch" that is "momentary only" MOST of
the time, but which has some mechanism by which it can become, essentially,
a "latching foot switch" in ON position... e.g. a second switch on it or
attached to it that forces it to be "on / down," overriding the "momentary"
pedal's current state.

I appreciate all the feedback / help - thx!

Cass

I might fail to grasp what you're exactly trying to do, so I summarize.

You want a pedal which works:
Step on it and release: switched on (like a sustain pedal held
down)
step on it and relese a second time: switched off (like a sustain
pedal not held down)

The sustain pedal type ist called "momentary foot switch", among these are
the sustain pedals. The other type is called "latching foot switch"
or "on/off pedal".

Boss calls these e.g. FS-5U (for the momentary) or FS-5L (for the latching
one). You should be able to get those from about any company which makes
foot-operated thingies at all.

(Note that these latching switches don't have a polarity switch, because
it's either on the first time you step on it or the second one).

I use a Ableton Live + Electrix Repeeter setup. Amidst the looping, I
often set my synth (a Roland XP-30) into midi-sync'd arpeggiations,
which I can use the sustain pedal to continue while I play something
else (piano, trumpet, voice, whatever).

I'd like to be able to easily "lock" that sustain pedal to free up my
foot for other things. I'm sure I can hot-wire my existing pedal
(standard square sustain pedal) w/a toggle switch -- which I still for
some reason havn't gotten around to -- but if I can buy one ready-made,
I'm inclined to do that. Does anyone make such a beast?

thx

I use an XP-60 and also like to lock-on the arpeggiator or various
ambient patches I create. I've never seen a locking sustain pedal for
sale and modified my Ensoniq double pedal with a small toggle which I
can nudge on and off with my foot. It works great and is worth the
effort.
