This Tuesday September 27th - Songspell Sit back and enjoy the trip as the sonic alchemists of Songspell, Michael Moon (Vibraphone, electric guitar, Vocals, percussion), Thom Dean (Keys, percussion) & Jenn Howie (Keys, Vocals, percussion), weave sound like a magic spell. Sometimes soft and ambient, soon melting into organic driving psychedelia. Imagine early Pink Floyd at an acid test. Nothing is predetermined or programmed, each show is a unique, in the moment journey as much a surprise to the band as the audience. http://www.thetempleofsound.com/song-spell.html Between Sets CD - "New Life Dreaming" by Steve Roach Our month-long feature on Steve Roach's new "Dreamtime Box" concludes with disc four "New Life Dreaming" - a CD of expansive drifting pieces inspired by revisiting the classic ambient works on the original "Dreamtime Return" album during its recent remastering. http://www.steveroach.com . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . On this night - 3 ambient guitarists featured on the CD. Paul Royes, strumming and caressing his Stratocaster guitar under swirling rainbows of ambient visuals, opened the evening with a meditative set. Paul's latest compositions are grounding, yet inspire flights of imagination. Creating a sound that encourages introspection, Royes has created companion music for artists who habitually listen while they create. According to one PiNG enthusiast, looper Joe G's first performance at the PiNG in over a year "spaced the house." His set was the perfect blend of lyricism descending into waves of distortion with the added element of the General Chaos guys projecting cosmic designs around his head. At the end of his gorgeous set, another member of the PiNG commented that "everyone loves Joe." And we hope to see-- and hear--him again at TAP before too long. Phil Ogison (aka The Devil In The Design) opened his set with a tip of the hat to one of his guitar inspirations, Steve Hillage (of seventies psychedelic/jazz tribe Gong and, more recently, of ambient techno project System 7). Phil then continued the night's emerging theme of taking the audience deeper into space with several swelling guitar/looper workouts. The evening closed with an entertaining 3-way jam featuring Paul, Joe and Phil as they traveled together through several styles of guitar interplay.
