OT (ish) Role of a laptop in music

Hi all

I'm writing an essay on 'the wider role of the laptop in music' I have to 
research three different styles where it is used, I thought I might just 
throw this into the 'community' if anyone has any interesting input it 
would 
be appreciated.  Styles that spring to mind so far are, experimental, 
electronic(a) and some kind of beat orientated music
