I'd say that's an excellent strategy. As much as I rely on my FCB1010, I don't love it, and I moved to a floor guitar effects processor/amp modeler because it gave me a degree of control and feedback that no MIDI controller would/could. If there was a compelling reason for the controller, I bet people would buy it, but make sure it's an option. (See my comments about the Korg Legacy collection controller) I can't wait to check your software. I know it's not even in beta yet but can you give use an idea of it's feature set?
