I took a look at the FC-300 at NAMM. Unfortunately there was nobody around
the roland booth who seemed likely to explain it in detail. But
fortunately
Roland left one powered on sitting next to the guy doing VG-99 demos. So I
just sat down next to it and started poking the buttons. I can't say I
really figured it out, because the interface is a bit arcane. But what I
can say is:

- there is a "mode" concept, where you can be in a controller mode, a
patch
change mode, or a "sysex" mode that appears only intended for working with
the VG-99. In controller mode you only set up controllers, patch mode only
patches, etc. (at least that is what I interpreted from the cryptic
interface.)

- I only ever saw possibility of programming continuous controller or
program change messages. I never saw any other MIDI message in any of the
editing screens. So I don't think there is any option of Note messages,
StartSong, StopSong, etc, etc,. Program Change and CC, that is all you get.

- Switches apparently can be programmed as momentary or latching, which
may
be good news for echoplex users as this may possibly work using CC
messages
to control the EDP.

Seems well constructed, but definitely this is not the PMC-10 resurrection.

Nice if used with the VG-99, since there is two way communication and
updates on the VG-99 appear on the pedal display.

Anyway, that is the best I could figure about it. Hopefully better
information begins appearing.
