If I was to get a hardware based solution I would also look into two second hand EDP's. For my personal style that would give me the most musical and creative bang for the buck. But this is a difficult choice because the Looperlative is constantly being upgraded software wise while the EDP's functionality is freezed. You never know when the Looperlative may "catch up". And for some musician's application the Looperlative is already today the most accurate looper, it all depends on what you want to do. If I would not have to go with a hardware based solution I would use the software looper Mobius (partly EDP-like). As a VST plug-in if the Ableton Live latpop runs Windows or on a second Window laptop if the Ableton box runs OS X. Leaving out the the hypothetical conditions of this thread, Mobius is my chosen looping tool IRL, at least for doing live concerts. On some rare occasions I use an EDP for some special effect looping in the studio (odd stuttering stuff that Mobius can't do). On studio recordings I also perform live looping with generic tape delay simulation plug-ins like the Lexicon PSP42, Expert Sleepers Augustus Loop and the very good tape sim "Tape Delay" that comes as a part of Logic.
