The Irregular Seasonal Howl

The Irregular Seasonal Howl
or
An update from Douglas Baldwin, coyote-in-residence

You are receiving this e-mail newsletter because you either signed up for
it
at my web site, or you told me you wanted to stay in touch, or I decided to
send it to you. If this kind of correspondence is annoying to you, just hit
the reply button, put “unsubscribe” in the Subject box, and send it back.

ONE YEAR GONE…
It was just a year ago that I began my web presence. I’m sure you’ve all
been to www.thecoyote.org many, many times by now, but just in case you
haven’t, well, go ahead and click on that link. And even if you HAVE been
there….

…have you seen my “Quotations” page? I’ve begun to collect quotes and
aphorisms about music and musicians, and already it’s a pretty hefty
collection. Click on www.thecoyote.org/quotations.cfm and have yourself a
chuckle, a nod of agreement, a murmur of disagreement, perhaps a touch of
insight into the musical process. (Many thanks to Scott Kistenberger, who
originally sent many of these my way.) Got a good quote? Care to correct or
comment on what I’ve posted? Drop me a line!

Have you listened to “Postmortal Postman?” It’s my first MP3 file, and it’s
absolutely freeeeee! You’ll find it at www.thecoyote.org/listen.cfm . Of
course, if I hear it used as background on the next episode of “Hanna
Montana,” both Jeff Wheeler and I will have to hunt you down and break your
fingers. Actually, this might be a good way to lure Mr. Wheeler down from
his hideaway in the foothills of New Hampshire. Hmmmm…..

TOTALLY UNRELATED TO MY WEB SITE, I would like to announce that THE GODDESS
OF GIGDOM HATH GIVEN ME GREAT SUCCOR! Many of you from the Long Island area
have heard me moaning and groaning about getting back out and performing in
public. With great thanks to Skip Krevens, who actually made the connection
for me, I am now playing with White Hot and Blue. Amazingly, these
brothers-I-never-knew-I-had were exactly what I was looking for:
? Seasoned professional players…
? …playing music I love and know well…
? …for just a couple of weekends each month…
? …for reasonably good money.
You can visit the band’s web site at www.whitehotandblue.com . It will be
continuously updated, including my just-added photo and bio, and listings
of
upcoming dates, so add it to your favorites.

NOW, BACK TO MY WEB SITE. Do you have a copy of Play Guitar By Ear yet?
What???? You DON’T????? What are you waiting for? Go to
www.thecoyote.org/giftshop.cfm right now and order copies for yourself (at
least two – you’ll wear out the pages in no time, and you’ll want extra
copies of the CD that comes with it as well; you know how those CDs can
wear
out with repeated listening. Then order a couple-half-dozen copies for
anyone you’ve ever known who has ever tried to play the guitar. Tell them
to
follow the instructions in the book, and they’ll be replacing me in the
White Hot and Blue lineup in no time.

THIS JUST IN FROM THE WEATHER TEAM: Friends in Europe, you’re getting the
storm that just walloped New York on Friday the 16th/Saturday the 17th. We
were hit with freezing rain, sleet, and snow that froze like a shell on
everything. I cancelled all my Friday students and huddled with the family
until Saturday. Then, while walking Trevor the Lassie-Impersonator on
Saturday morning, I slipped and fell flat on my back. Twice. It took a good
half-hour to dig my car out of its icy cocoon, and I drove all of two
blocks
to the Handy Pantry on Echo Avenue before turning around and going back
home
for another couple hours. When I finally got to the studio at about 10:00
a.m., I found that all my students had cancelled, due to the weather. It
was
the first time ever that they did NOT paint a green stripe down 5th Avenue
for the St. Patrick’s day parade.

Looking forward to more regular editions of The Irregular Seasonal Howl,
I remain your trusted Coyote in residence,
Douglas Baldwin
