There are some fairly serious compatibility issues with many hi level name brand PC laptops. Many of them don't do well with Firewire audio applications and MOST do not have PCMCIA slots. Be careful what you buy.
I recommend either going with a top floor Mac machine or a PC that has been configured and supported by the companies that distribute them. MusicXPC, Sonica & Rain are all pretty killer machines.
