Hands down for me, personally, the greatest film ever made is  
Alejandro Jodorowsky's "The Holy Mountain".
Made in 1971, or so, it is an astounding film, but certainly not one  
for just about anybody.

It is about a quest for spiritual Truth, but NOT in the ways that  
many may think it approaches that quest.

HIGHLY REVcommended!  But like I said, it may be just too much ,or  
over some heads, for some folks.
I have seen it countless numbers of times and it seems "fresh" to me  
every time. Works for me.

Many great artists can be that way, but I don't go to a film to "see"  
the "artist", but only to experience the work that artist is presenting.
Their personalities mean nothing to me, personally for the most part,  
although sometimes there CAN be some exceptions, but very rarely.

I also think that Mr. Greenaway's "Prospero's Books" is a HIGH mark  
of cinematic achievement and is a mind blower,
and another film that is HIGHLY REVcommended!   Nyman did the music  
for this one as well and did an excellent job, IMO.
