SF electronic music festival

SFEMF 8
September 5-9
Project Artaud Theater
450 Florida Street, San Francisco, CA 94110

The 2007 San Francisco Electronic Music Festival consists of five
evenings of electrifying performances by internationally recognized
composers and musicians in the electronic music field. This year’s
impressive line-up features both respected pioneers and emerging artists
whose work spans the sonic spectra - from ambient to rhythmic, from
atonal to melodic. As the only San Francisco music festival dedicated
solely to electronic music, the SFEMF brings together the varied
practices of artists working with laptop generated sound, processed live
acoustic instruments, amplified found objects, projected video,
improvisation, and performance art.

This year SFEMF is honored to present two renowned, New York-based,
electronic music pioneers composers, Annea Lockwood and David Behrman–
both of whom will be performing on Saturday evening, September 8th.
Lockwood will be presenting the West Coast premiere of a work called
"Jitterbug (2007) involving 6 channels of audio and three performers
(herself, Behrman, and bay area percussionist William Winant.) She will
also be presenting "Bow Falls", with 2-channel sound and video by Paul
Ryan. Behrman will present "Long Throw" (2007) with the composer on
stringed instruments & computer and William Winant on percussion. This
is also a West Coast premiere.

This year’s international participants include Canadian Musician and
Sound artist Tim Hecker, who appears on Thursday’s concert, and two
Mexican artists: Murcof (Nortek Collective), and the duo .pig, who will
kicking off the 2007 festival on Wednesday, September 5th in a special
evening sponsored by San Francisco’s NEXMAP– a new San Francisco
non-profit organization dedicated to the production and appreciation of
contemporary and experimental performing arts. And from Los Angeles,
SFEMF presents Letiecia Castaneda and Univac.

This year’s local artists include flutist/composer/”aspiring rock star”
MaryClare Brzytwa, electro-cellist Zoe Keating, media artist Kadet Kuhne
(collaborating with Mem1), award-winning laptop composer Lesser,
renowned ballet & modern dance composer Les Stuck, and the inimitable
Fred Frith, who will be presenting an SFEMF-commissioned collaboration
with Patrice Scanlon.
