Oh, Rainer, I saw Zappa with my brother, Bill in the mid 70's doing all
instrumental music with Jean Luc Ponty on violin, George Duke on
Keyboards,
Terry Bozio (I think but am not sure) on Drums, Ruth Underwood on vibes
and
Bruce Fowler on electric trombone (playing all the bass guitar parts with
no
bassist) and that great early vocalist they had whose name escapes me now.
Ian Underwood was in the band too but I forget what instrument he played.

What an amazing show. They actually got booed off the stage as they were
opening for some headliner who I can't remember any more.
Bruce Fowler contemtuously walked to the front of the stage as the band
walked off and held his trombone slide straight in the air and then
turned it upside down and what looked like a quart of spit came out on the
first rows of booing rock fans. It was awesome!!!!!!

It was an incendiary performance and Zappa was playing his fucking ass
off.
I remember he had a cigarette lit the whole time and it was
always sending a straight line of smoke up into the concert the whole
time.
He seemed so cool and detached while he played. I realized that
I had never understood what a great guitarist he was until that night.
I
mostly new him from his comedic rock (which to be frank, I wasn't very
fond
of).

Bill, if you are reading this , do you remember who he was opening for
and
what venue it was? Also, was it Bozio on traps...........I didn't know a
lot of those
people in those days

I so wish I had a lot of money, Rainer. I'd bring you my whole
discography for a chance to go see that show with you.

Have fun,

yours, Rick
