I recently had a job doing a sound mix for a low-budget film. Much of the location sound and dialogue was recorded using a cheap stereo mic with 2 oposing capsules. When any of the tracks recorded with that mic were summed to mono, the phase cancellations resulted in about a 30db drop in overall volume, plus some really nasty EQ. Very annoying. ----- Original Message ----- From: "andy butler" <akbutler@tiscali.co.uk> To: <Loopers-Delight@loopers-delight.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 30, 2007 1:08 AM Subject: Re: y2k7 mp3s > > Raul Bonell wrote: >> They are far superior to the stereo mic that comes with the microtrack. > > The mic with the microtrack (at least the one I've seen) has 2 cardioid > capsules at 180 degrees apart. > That's only stereo in the the sense that it produces 2 channels that are > different. > > Probably that explains Rainer's observation of stereo phase strangeness. > > andy butler > >
