Vocal Looping (again)

Ok, so I'm learning a lot about these loopers, and a new question has  
come to mind - -

For vocal looping, am i better off buying an EDP (or EH 2880), or  
going for the software route (Ableton live with a laptop).  I don't  
have a lot of $$ to spend, but could get an older version of Ableton  
with a reg code and fix up an old laptop.

Are there any exclusively software loopers on this list?
