i don't use Mainstage, but the whole ordering thing has thrown me off numerous times... to ensure a flawless performance start, i have to make sure i turn my MOTU on first, in order for all my midi to work correctly. MOTU -> then Midipipe -> then Ableton Live and then, if i shutdown something in the wrong order, restarting my laptop is the only way to get it all up and running again. and don't get me started about sleep.... the anxiety of whether my midi setup will still be working when i go onstage, hours after soundcheck, is the most stressful part of any looping performance for me. i like venues with a curtain, so i can sneak out right before and go through the restart sequence and check that midi is "live".
