Yes, if it is EQ and tonal shaping you are after, you can do it in software. But if you are taking a raw acoustic pickup signal and conditioning it to go into the laptop, a software program will not be able to do this for you. It's like plugging a nice mic into a 1/8 inch laptop input. No software program is going to fix that problem/nightmare. You need to deliver a high quality raw acoustic signal into the laptop (not EQ, but level), and then once you have it in the computer you can mangle it to your heart's desire.
