Re: Ondes Martenot was Duduk and melancholic instrument

As soon as I saw the post this morning, I frantically searched for one for
sale. This is what I found:

1. There was a run of 50 made by the inventor's son, 44 went to a japanese
music school. The remaining few went to musicians, one of whom is the
keyboard player for Radiohead.
2. Johnny Greenwood, the keyboard player for radiohead, wanted a second
one for touring because he didn't want the first one damaged. Even with
his celebrity and near-infinite cash, he could not aquire a second one
(FUCK!).
3. One french guy built a few copies, called L'Ondea, selling for $20K per
unit. Rumour has it that people who have paid in full have waited years
for the instrument, and some have yet to receive them. (I think this is
worse than my experience in aquiring a Moog Guitar!)
http://www.cslevine.com/ondea/index.html I think this was after Johnny
Greenwood found himself unable to attain a second unit.
4. Johhny Greenwood approached a company to build a martenot-style synth
controller for touring, which was completed in 2001. It's called "The
French Connection", you can buy them here:

I still want the real thing! :drool

Thanks for sharing that clip,  what a fascinating demonstration and what
an amazing
guy playing it.  I'd love to sit down and share a glass of red wine with
that guy
and just listen to him talk about his life and music.

That was also really cute,  them playing the Star Trek theme at the end
as a joke.  It's actually a beautiful melody stripped of it's TV-ness.

Damn,  these things must be hella expesive, eh?  Anyone know
what they go for?        Also, damn!!!!  I want a French horn so badly!!!

that clip made me so inspired..................hard to get quite that much
expression out of a Dayglo UV Active Optic Orange Plastic Frisbee
if ya know what ahm sayin', dog!
