Per, This resonates strongly with me because I have a degree in Liberal Arts, yet work as a software engineer. It's been so long since I've been in school (25 years) that almost nothing except for the most basic of algorithms that I might have learned in a technical program would stil be applicable today. What I did learn was how to think, analyze, and communicate. And these skills have served me without fail every day of my life! It's why I have been able to continue to learn and develop the skills I need to remain employed and well paid. And yet, I am occasionally frustrated in progressing my career because whatever powers-that-be prefer that I have a technical degree, even a technical MS. It's past due that I should start my own company (again) so I don't have to deal with any of this. -George http://www.myspace.com/georgeludwigmusic ----- Original Message ---- From: Per Boysen <perboysen@gmail.com> To: Loopers-Delight@loopers-delight.com Sent: Tuesday, January 27, 2009 2:54:55 AM Subject: Re: OT DID YOU KNOW? A fascinating and eye opening video about changes in the digital media age Thinking back on this... it's been well a decade now since we were first talking about a lot of higher education programs becoming obsolete because they tend to teach people how to do things when they should rather be teaching people how to find out how to do things. "Occupations" go away and we will all spend our lives "in never ending education".
