Latency compensation isn't a cure-all. Say you're re-triggering a loop with a note right at the beginning of it, ...no way to compensate. What happens is that playback can't start until after the latency period, so you can either hear the attack of the first note and do without compensation, or you can fade in the latency compensated loop losing the attack.
